We managed to dodge the raindrops and hike to the top of Black Bear Mountain today. And we still didnít see any bears! It figures. The one time I stay in a safe, sturdy cabin, there are no bears in sight.
The last time I went camping in the Adirondacks, I slept in a tent. I awoke in the middle of the night to a low growl, and claws scratching the thin waterproof (but definitely not bear-proof!) material near my head. Iíd had some chocolate under my pillow, and a bear apparently smelled it. Luckily, our dog heard the commotion, started barking and chased the bear up a tree. Now, Iím strictly a cabin girl. Itís a sweet deal: I can go camping, have my chocolate and not get eaten by a bear.
